Razón #79

Razón #79
Translation:
Green Lantern —I know we must preserve our [cultural] roots and that we need to earn an extra buck, but I still feel ridiculous!!
Martian Manhunter —Shut up and keep dancing!
Hulk —Hulk feels tired and wants to go to the restroom...
Green Arrow —1-2-3,cha-cha-cha,1-2-3,cha-cha-cha
Samy —I never thought I would ever see these guys dancing like Aztecs...
Doriancito —Well,I think it's odd noticing that 'Indios Verdes' is right in the middle of the Zocalo!!
-Reason Nº 79 Why There Ain't No Mexican Super-heroes...

Notes in English
The Zocalo is a huge square right in the center of Mexico City.Sometimes you can see there some performers dressed as Aztec warriors and reenacting ancient dances for the tourists.

Way up in the North of Mexico City, right in the limit where Insurgentes avenue becomes a highway connected with the city of Pachuca, there are a subway terminal and a couple of bronze statues in honor of Aztec kings Itzcoatl and Ahuizotl. With the years, the bronze of the statues have become greenish and so people call them Indios Verdes (the Green Indians).Since then, that zone has also become known as Indios Verdes as well.
And then in this cartoon,we've got Green Lantern and Green Arrow dressed as Aztec indians. And of course, the skin of both Hulk and Martian Manhunter is green. It's a very silly pun,I know, but a funny one too, when you're a Mexican.

Airplane —Control tower...this is Aeromexico's flight 439,Is there any air traffic in the area?
Tower —Control tower here;you've got Silver Surfer at 200 feet, the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee at 800 feet,Superman at 1300 feet, and both Birdman and Hawkman at 500 feet...and if you're thinking about landing, hurry up,because we are also waiting for an UFO from the ID4 movie and 2 Shi'ar star cruisers! May God help you!
American Godzilla —Yummy-yummy!
Godzooky —Daddy?
Running man —Hey! I did like your movie!
-Reason Nº 39 Why There Ain't No Mexican Super-heroes...

Notes in English
Can you find Waldo in this pic? Okay,Waldo is not actually there, but still there's a lot of characters and not all of them are super-heroes.
Mexico City's airport is very crowded,so it's not hard to think how chaotic it would become if there were flying super-heroes everywhere.

(And yes,I'm a fan of the Japanese Godzilla, but I didn't thought the American version was very bad at all)

Green Lantern —Yes,he's here, just a moment —J'onn! Jaime Maussan is calling you!
Phone —Hullo...?
Martian Manhunter —What the...? I've already told you that whenever he calls you should tell him that I'm not here! Surely he only wants to keep insisting on featuring me in his TV show!
Marvin The Martian —Grampa J'onn, keep on reading the tale,I wanna know what was what the Little Red Riding Hood said!
Book —Martian Chronicles
Martian from Mars Attacks —Wonder how can I go to Campo Marte?
-Reason Nº 30 Why There Ain't No Mexican Super-heroes...

Notes in English
Jaime Maussan is a TV reporter that used to host the Mexican version of the 60 Minutes TV newsmagazine until he got interested only in UFOs.He's quite professional as a reporter but he's also a bit gullible and has been involved in at least 2 or 3 UFO hoaxes and so has lost some of his respectability.

About all those martian puns, well,in Mexican slang, extraterrestrials of all kinds are called marcianos —martians.Of course, everyone knows that there's no life forms in Mars yet the term stuck in Mexican culture. The irony in this cartoon is obviously that I drew only 'true' martians.
Campo Marte (Camp Mars) is the most notorious military camp in Mexico City.

Oh,and the number 30 is underlined because this cartoon was my first landmark in the series,as many of my friends didn't believe I could reach that number (at this stage,I wasn't sure about how many cartoons I was going to draw).
